Have gotten over (100) people started this year into reloading. Suggest the LEE Anniv. Spl. breech-lock kit w/single-stage press, set of dies, powder measure, scale and bullet puller....$175.00. Also get a vibratory tumbler... must have clean brass. It's the KISS principle way to go,can use for rifle and pistol and will do everything except .50 BMG. Need more than 500 rds a month....go Dillon 650 progressive w/case feeder. The money you save in 1-year will allow you to go progressive and load everything you want to shoot. I've loaded over 110 cals in 35+ yrs.....it's well worth the effort and gives you a great deal of satisfaction and peace of mind.

Len,
please clarify as to what doesn't do .50 cal. The Lee kit($175.oo) or the tumbler.
Thanks.

I'd say go with the basic Lee 'Classic Cast' press... only around 80.00 by itself (no BMG dies)... it comes with an adapter to use std 7/8" die sets, and you can always pick up their 1.25"dia BMG dies/shellholder/priming stem to do that as well later.

Whole basic std kit including small tumbler should only run about 225.00 plus shipping.

Here's one I have set up to load .50s, but I typically use it to load .338LM.
(the bigger press to the right is one of my Hornady 50BMG presses)

The breech-lock press will do all rifle/pistol cals...except .50 BMG and the 20MM. The Classic Cast press set-up is for those who need to load the 'big boys'. A vibratory tumbler will clean all brass...depending on the bowl size and how much brass you want to clean at one time. The standard size...about 1/2 gal or so bowl....will clean about 300-400 9MM,300 .38/.357 or about 275 .45ACP. I sell these with a gallon jug (about 4#) of 20/40 grind corn cob and a sifter for $65.00. Just read some (LYMAN #49 Manual) and get started. You will not regret it...ever....LOL....

It's good to get this now.
Go for the turret press, it's faster when you want to produce a quantity of ammo.
I like Lee stuff a lot. It's very simple, built solid, and you can buy direct from the factory website. Great no-questions guarantee too.

I'm leaning towards a dillon 550b Progressive because of the ability to quickly create loads I like. I'm watching the videos on youtube and I like what I see.

I went to the range today and "mined" about 20 pounds of 223, 45, 40, and 9mm brass. I gave the 45 away to a friend, chucked the 40 in the scrap bin (Most was shot by glocks and is ruined by the unsupported chamber).

I'm mainly doing 9mm and 223 for now. I just need to work up a good m193 spec load for 223 and also a nice 124 or 115 grain FMJ load for the 9mm (not +p) and then perhaps a Self defense load on some of the nickel cases I picked up. Maybe something around factory levels pushing a 124 or 147grn gold dot to 1100 FPS. Sounds reasonable. My carry ammo is Winchester PDX1 pushing a 124grn JHP to 1200 FPS...
