I have several of George's tools and they are well worth having....and of course beautifully finished tools are a joy to own.

I load for an M2 with the Lee press. I replaced the handle bolt with a grade 8 and then replaced the rather cheesy stock handle with an extra Dillon handle with the round ball off of a 550. It does have a tendency to break the collar but they are cheap from Lee. I have several spares.

I size once fired mil brass all day long with the Lee setup and Imperial size die wax with no stuck cases, no broken decapping pins and no problems. I have sized thousands this way.

Now granted, if you are working with unfired pulldown brass and fail to first remove the sealant in the case neck your life will truly be hell Sad

FWIW

That won't fit FN brass - 3/32" flash hole. and Others.

See After I folded up 3 ( Not Cheep You Also Bend Shaft )

Learned Trick You Polish Expander Ball to Crome ( Less Drag )
Notice Poor Finish on RCBS ( after I Bent 20 Pins I made My Oun )

KBailey has it dead right and his demo is very good. There is no reason for high force on the Lee (or any other) press in any part of the cycle with 50 bmg.

Get the sealant out of the neck with a trimmed plumbers 1/2" wire brush in a drill, (takes less than 10 seconds and results in much more consistent bullet to neck grip) lube the inside of the neck with Lee resizing lube on a 50 cal muzzleloader mop (or Qtip), lube the outside of the case (I have great success with RCBS case lube II rolled on the outside) and size away. Even with crimped in primers, the force on the press handle is low. There is no need to break press parts.

Any high press force is also stessing the case which will result in much lower brass life.

I'm also using the Lee 4 hole turret press for everything but high accuracy rounds and 50bmg now. Less than $90 from Natchez for the bare press. The pro autodisc measure has been within .02 grains for most powders. The lee primer feeder took a little getting used to, but is working fine now. MUCH faster than multiple single stage presses.

GeoAz. your tools look great.

That's simply a blanket generalization that isn't true. All depends on the condition of the range brass as it comes in the door from the practice ranges. Some stuff sizes very nice, other stuff is very hard. Depends mostly on which greenie headspaced the gun before firing. And WCC brass seems much softer than current LC, it sizes VERY easy.

You're using a turret press for .50? Which one?

Warcloud, send me some of your toughest brass to decap and resize and I'll be happy to try it and report. I've sized many thousand rounds from different soources including LC 05 06 07. Some of what I received had a high dump ratio from improper headspace also. Bent necks, corroded, etc. Cleaning up any OD corrosion with scotchbrite and using the method described, I have not had any difficult sizing/decapping and I have not broken any parts. Not even come close.

Being an open minded person, I will be happy to admit if I'm wrong. So send it on. Grin. I don't doubt your experience, and have no intention to offend you, but we have discussed this before and I've not seen you say you have tried this method and lube combo either.

Lee lube on the outside and RCBS lube on the inside makes for MUCH harder resizing. The lube combo and cleaning is important for me. Maybe your expander is rough? Have polishing media left on/in the cases?

Note that I said I everything BUT 50 bmg and accuracy ammo in the turret press. Rifle brass has to be guided into the resize die in the turret sometimes, so I do ammo I expect to be accurate in the single stage Lee press and an old as I am RCBS O frame. I weigh every charge, not use a powder feed for other than plinking/blasting ammo.

Lee's website says you can size 50 bmg in the classic turrent press if you disable the indexer, but one would need a 1-1/4" threaded die plate. Anyone know if they are available? I've not looked or even measured to see if there is enough meat in the die plate.

I should also say that letting the Lee wax resizing lube dry inside the neck is part of what makes the sizing (and press force) easier also. Setting the trimmed, deburred, cleaned and abrasive free cases in a case rack, applying the lee lube to a 50 cal muzzleloader wool or cotton mop, running it in each cleaned neck and then setting up the press for sizing and decapping is usually enough time for it to dry enough.

Using the wax inside the case neck wet makes for much more sizing force in my experience.

Hope it works for you. I learned it mostly here and thank you to those who had posted their experience.

i use gear oil, its cheap and works great. also works great for resizing bullet tips, just pour some(couple ounces) on a pile of tips (200) and swish around in a plastic tub, and have at it Very Happy

Tony:

All the problems I was having went away when I switched out the press handle bolt for a Grade 8, torqued it down tight, and I use the Lee white sizing lube exclusively. If I don't find pre-tumbled brass, I tumble in a cement mixer using walnut husk. I set the depth so the sizing happens at the end of the handle travel for max leverage, and I let the decap rod "float" a bit, I don't tighten it down hard. Doing it this way seems to be working very nicely, as I've gone through a few thousand rounds with no broken parts.
