What's the deal for shipping a gun for repair?
I'm getting conflicting info...
some say an individual can ship by common carrier a gun to a FFL manufacturer for repair and it can be retunred directly to the individual when repair completed.....
and others say it has to go thru a local FFL on the return shipping?
Does it matter that it was made by one manufacturer and sent to a different manufacturer for repair?
Anyone had to send a gun out for repair?
Thanks in advance.

You can ship it directly to the gunsmith/manufacturer, and have them ship it directly back. There are limitations, however, on which means you can use to ship a firearm.

I just sent an 1187 12ga. to Remington, for a factory warranty repair. Two weeks later they called me back and were ready to return it. The gentleman on the other end of the phone verified that the return address I had supplied was the correct one for the return, I said yes. I was then asked if I had an FFL, I said no and he replied with "good, that means I don't have to do anything else". I then asked if I could change the return address over the phone, and he said "no, unless you would like to send it to an FFL".

In summary a firearm can be sent out and returned with no extra b.s. as long as it is going DIRECTLY back to the original return address that was clearly noted when shipped. Even in Ca., because that's where I live.
